The Spacious Suburban Backyard
Be inspired by how host Dale Vine and stylist Madeline McFarlane help breathe some life into this spacious suburban backyard to create a swank Mediterranean-inspired entertaining zone.
When you’ve been living in your space for a while, it can sometimes feel like you have designer's block when trying to update a room. This generously designed backyard with its wide open two-storey veranda, gave the resident family a challenge to furnish the space without looking sparse. It was no doubt that they enjoy entertaining large number of family and friends in this great space.
Madeline took advantage of this fantastic space by selecting a Mediterranean theme that beautifully lends itself to the openness of the outdoor room; and by creating three key zones - the dining area, a relaxation zone and the cooking space.
The covered verandah is graced by the Venus 8 seater dining setting, a contemporary European vogue aluminium frame 9 piece set. While the blue outdoor tableware selected elegantly brought in the Mediterranean tones.
For the relaxation zone, the 5 seater Venus lounge setting gave this family a chill out space to unwind over a cup of tea when not entertaining, or perhaps a cheese platter before meals were served while guests are around.
Madeline couldn’t resist a few outdoor throw pillows to add colour to this space. While Dale put together the Hennessy egg chair and cheekily christened it “PPLE”, the perfect personal lounging experience.
In the cooking zone, Dale set up the powerful Ziegler & Brown Turbo Elite 4 Burner with Side Burner BBQ, and the Arrosto Gas Smoker. Two great choices, as this family would be able to enjoy deliciously cooked low and slow meats, while their new stainless steel cooktop BBQ would be able to churn out roasts, steaks, grills or rotisserie-style meals and stir frys to feed the horde.
What stood out the most in this transformation overall, were the selection of colour. Merely by replacing the dark tone wicker furniture with the bright white pieces and blues servingware, the space has opened up vibrantly into a Mediterranean getaway.
