The Urban Apartment Balcony
We partnered with 9Homes, host Dale Vine and stylist Madeline McFarlane for a six-part video makeover series featuring various sized backyards and balconies. In our first makeover, Madeline selected a Moroccan theme to transform a bare and pokey urban apartment balcony into an inviting and cosy outdoor entertaining space.
With apartment living fast becoming a common lifestyle in the big smoke, styling outdoor entertaining areas means being smarter when selecting key pieces. In this 5m by 5m square balcony, Madeline chose an opposite shape with the round Larache Deluxe 5 piece dining setting. This helps ensure plenty of clearance space for guests to move around.
Inspired by the terracotta tiles and lush surrounding greenery, Madeline also selected the compact Provence 5 Piece Chat setting as a great side piece to curl up with a good book, or share a friendly one on one chat over a cup of tea. Dale added some extra outdoor, weather resistant throw cushions to add to the cushy feel.
If you have a similar sized outdoor space, picking a theme based on what surrounds your outdoor space is a good place to start to help you choose the right pieces and accentuate in style. Here, both key pieces Madeline chose were because the wicker materials complement the balcony with its earthy tones, yet are compact in size to give guests room to move around in this cosy space.
What is an Aussie outdoor space without a BBQ? Dale made the pick of the versatile and portable Ziggy Triple Grill in Chili Red - great for cooking dishes like Morrocan Fish or lamb skewers, or even bake casseroles or pizza to use like an outdoor oven. In terms of practicality, the Ziggy cart means you can also reposition the BBQ where it’s needed.
