If you have a griddle BBQ like the Beefmaster Griddle or are thinking about getting one, you’re in for a treat! Cooking on a griddle opens up endless possibilities that allows you to entertain with ease and explore different recipes. Here are some tips on how to get the most out of your Griddle BBQ.

Griddle burn-in first use only

"Burning-in" a griddle refers to the process of heating it at a high temperature before its first use. This helps remove any factory residues, manufacturing oils, and protective coatings that might be present on the surface. Turn on your griddle and set it to a high temperature and allow to heat up for around 15-20 minutes. Turn off the griddle and let it cool down naturally. Wipe clean with a damp cloth and you are ready to cook.

Season regularly

A well-seasoned griddle top is the key to unlocking the full potential of your griddle. It keeps the cooking surface in tip top condition, which is important for the flavour of your food and also to extend the life of your cooking surface.

To season, simply apply a thin layer of cooking oil across the entire griddle surface. Use a paper towel or cloth to ensure even coating. Opt for oils with high smoke points such as canola oil, peanut oil or soybean oil. Preheat your griddle on medium-high heat for the oil to penetrate and create a protective layer. As the oil heats, it will start to smoke. This is a sign that the seasoning process is taking place. Allow the griddle to smoke for 15-20 minutes. Turn off the griddle and let it cool down naturally. Regular seasoning every few cooking sessions will help keep your griddle top on top shape.

Clean your griddle as you go

To keep your griddle in top shape, it’s important you clean your griddle every cook; even when cooking. If you notice your griddle top starts to hold residue while cooking, simply use a griddle scraper to scrape down into the grease catcher. When scraping off residue, use long, even strokes to achieve a consistent clean surface. Also avoid using excessive force to prevent any damage on the griddle top.

To keep the exterior clean and shiny, wipe down the griddle with a damp microfibre cloth. Use a cover accessories you can use to enhance your griddle cooking experience.
